SISTER BAD HABIT
Asheville has been called many things—Weirdest, Happiest, Quirkiest Place in America, Santa Fe of the East, New Age Capital of the World, Beer City USA, Most Haunted, and others. It has earned every one of those names and wears them proudly. If you don’t believe me, drop into any one of the city’s tourist shops and you can buy a T-shirt bearing your favorite moniker for this crazy old mountain town whose energy vortex draws visitors from around the world.
You never know who you will see or meet walking the streets of Asheville—rich man, poor man, bohemian artist, eccentric billionaire, a professed warlock or witch, or even a man in a nun’s habit.
Sister Bad Habit is a celebrity character often sighted around Asheville. The “nun’s” image is a favorite for T-shirts, scarves, and other apparel in Asheville’s shops. There is even a locally crafted beer named after the nun. She—or rather, he—is none other than Jim Lauzon. Jim and his wife Jen are the owners of LaZoom Tours. The pair were crazy-in-love street performers who bought a bus, colored it purple, and pursued their wacky dream of offering entertaining tours of their zany hometown.
LaZoom has grown to encompass three buses, four drivers, one director, eight guides, and more nuns than you can shake a ruler at! But LaZoom is still Jim and Jen’s baby—they write the scripts and play comedic roles for their hilarious tours. Keep your camera handy because you just might catch a glimpse of Sister Bad Habit riding by on a bike or enjoying a local beer.
