BIKE FRIENDLY
Breakfast Inn a haven for cycling enthusiasts. Whether guests need simple route suggestions for a solo ride or comprehensive support services, Applewood’s staff can tailor their offerings to meet all cycling-related needs. Services include ride planning, on-ride guides, follow vehicles, coaching, bike mechanic services, assembly and break-down, logo-branded cycling clothing, and sports nutrition. For those who don’t bring their own bikes, Applewood offers a fleet of high-performance 3T Exploro bikes—renowned for their lightness and versatility on both paved roads and gravel rides—available for rental during a stay.
To elevate the cycling experience, Applewood has partnered with professional cyclist and U.S. National Road Race Champion Jonathan (Jonny) Brown. Jonny leads the Inn’s biking program, offering guests unique cycling adventures. When he is not competing with his professional team, EvoPro Racing, Jonny provides guided rides, coaching, and even challenge races. Applewood regularly hosts group rides led by Jonny, Stephen Collins, or other guest ride leaders. Private guided rides with Jonny around Asheville can be arranged in advance for an additional fee. Guests can also check the Inn’s event calendar for these group ride opportunities.
For those unable to visit Asheville, Applewood Manor hosts a weekly virtual group ride on the Zwift platform, led by either Jonny or Stephen. Cyclists can join the Applewood Cycling Club (USA Cycling Club 17390) through Strava to participate. The virtual rides currently take place every Thursday at 10:30 AM EST, though schedules may change, so participants are encouraged to follow the club on Strava for updates.
Stephen Collins’s commitment to cycling extends far beyond his Inn. An avid cyclist since 1999, Stephen competes both recreationally and professionally, with his race results available on the USA Cycling website. As a member of USA Cycling’s Champion Club, he actively supports the organization’s Development Foundation. In 2006, Stephen founded an elite Junior/Espoir (U23) development team under the Tristar Cycling Club to recruit and mentor young cyclists aiming for top-tier international competitions. The program successfully identified and trained athletes to represent the U.S. on the world stage, including Applewood’s own cycling pro, Jonny Brown.
Jonny Brown, now a member of the UCI Continental team EvoPro Racing, has an impressive track record. In 2018, he won the United States National Road Race Championship and placed 7th in Paris-Roubaix Espoirs. Still in his mid-twenties, Jonny is on a trajectory toward an extraordinary international cycling career, making him an invaluable part of Applewood Manor’s cycling offerings.
